Windows live writer is a life saver from the web version of the wordpress. The UI sucks big time in web and you need to wait by clicking here and there for different option. Offline blog writer is more efficient in providing the service instantaneously. You can save as draft and also you can work with multiple blogs, It remembers the password and you can directly post to any of your blog if you want.
Here’ in brief I’m explaining how to start working with Windows Live Writer.
Visit following website for downloading the exe.
Microsoft has stopping developing this tool after 2012 it seems, since the installer says Windows Essential 2012.
Double click on the installer. You will see two options. Since you just want Writer, please select “Choose the programs you want to install”
Here uncheck all except the “writer”, since on my machine its already installed it says so.
Once you select writer, click next and install the application.
From your programs launch “Windows Live Writer”
You will see a screen like this, On my machine I had selected a theme hence it shows different background.
If you click on the button on extreme left top, you will see the File menu, From here you can create new post, open post from existing blog, publish, set options, save it locally as draft, open latest draft

Insert Ribbon would help you to insert picture/vidoes/hyperlink etc. Some of them are already part of the Main Ribbon. Additional things which are not present in Home ribbon are
3. Addition of plugins and its options
4. Break setups.
Blog Account Ribbon
All the buttons link to the website, So clicking would launch your blog site and you can directly modify the settings from web.
Here you can update your theme or you can show your current post without theme.
Also you can select the blog options.
If you have inserted any picture then and you select the picture then you will start seeing this ribbon. This is context ribbon so will be invisible if context is not picture. Here you can change the size/styles/properties etc for picture.
