“You have to experience Munnar at least once in a lifetime”. I thought this is the best way of writing about my experience at Munnar – truly a paradise on Earth. Munnar is a mesmerizing Hill Station located in Kerala, God’s own Country.
Munnar which means ‘Three Rivers’ when translated in Malayalam is situated at the confluence of Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala rivers. The specialty of Munnar is its cool climate and flawless greenery. A vast area of Munnar is occupied by evergreen tea plantations and tropical forests. The Camelot Resort(More about it at the bottom) that we stayed during our visit to Munnar is actually surrounded by tea plantations on three sides and evergreen forest on the fourth side. It was really lovely and awesome to be on Top of the World with a cool breeze caressing your face every now and then.
Munnar got its trademark green beauty since the time when the British Empire developed this area to cultivate tea plants. Hence most of the tea plants are nearly 130 years old. During my travel to Munnar I happened to see many beautifully manicured tea plantations, which my friend told were more than 100 years old.
Munnar is also famous for its many National Parks and Sanctuaries, the most famous being Eravikulam National Park which is famous for the endangered species – Nilgiri Thar (Wild Goats). Several other wildlife can also be spotted in the forests of Munnar like Grizzled Giant Squirrel, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Gaur, Sambar, porcupine and Wild Elephants. We were not lucky to spot any wildlife in Munnar, but my friend explained his experience of sighting an entire heard of wild elephants parading in the tea plantations.
Neelakurinji is the famous and rare kind of plant in Munnar which blooms once in 12 years and tourists from all over the world throng Munnar to get a glimpse of this fantastic natural phenomenon. A vast area of mountains gets covered with Neelakurinji, giving the whole area a blue shade is an amazing spectacle for the visitors. I have never seen a Neelkurinji bloom in Munnar, but I heard a lot about it and I am waiting for 2018 when this phenomenon happens again, to visit Munnar.
Like what I remarked in my very first sentence, Munnar is an place which you have to experience atleast once. The fresh unpolluted breeze and the tranquility will fill you with perfect calm and relaxation. If you are looking forward to an experience to feel rejuvenated – Munnar is the right place. I made my choice and really had an exhilarating experience and now it is your turn…
Camelot Resort is situated 11 kms away from the monotonous hustle and bustle of the town. As only BSNL network functions in the area, those who wants to escape from the torture of continuous phone calls can come to Camelot Resort for a temporary disconnect and out of the world feeling. The road leading to the Resort are decades old with its own rustic beauty and the Owners they feel the need to keep it untouched in these areas. Camelot Resort is situated on one of the highest places in Munnar and hence there is a steep road to climb during the last stretch of the journey. However there is nothing to worry as this road is concrete and all the vehicles reach the Resort.
Once you are in the resort it is purely beautiful nature which welcomes you with outstretched arms. You need to experience the calm and quiet to really cherish it. Come to Camelot, Come to marvelous nature in its full splendor to unravel, unwind and disconnect.
Here’s one of the latest review from one of the customer, which I copied from the register.
“Recently we had a repeat customer, a couple from Hyderabad who had stayed with us for their Honeymoon in 2010 and visited again after 5 years to spend 6 nights and 7 days at Camelot Resort Munnar. During check out, these are the words uttered by them – Camelot is a place to unravel, unwind and disconnect for a complete rejuvenation of body and mind. Both of them lead a very hectic schedule back home and they hardly get 5 hours of sleep most of the nights, hence one can imagine their lifestyle. At Camelot Resort they found the ultimate relaxation. They spend entire seven days in getting their beauty sleep, tasty and nutritious food (vegetarian hence some of the produce was fresh from Camelot Resort’s own organic vegetable farm), waking up to Cuckoo Bird song, walking through the lush green carpet of tea plantations, reading a book or two from the Resort’s Mini Library and finally enjoying the blissful calm and quiet of the night. “
